I just started reading Dune for the first time, which is odd considering that I am a Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Dystopia et al. fanatic. Great book so far. Isn't it funny that the majority of groundbreaking Sci-Fi has been written more than 40 years ago. What is it about the genre that outside of Ender and his games, published 25 years ago, is the only series in recent memory to capture the imagination of the masses? I have a feeling in the next 5-10 years some one is going to breakout with a big series on the scale of Harry Potter which seems to have single-handedly revived the Fantasy genre and lead the general public to authors like George R.R. Martin. Just speculating... By the way if anyone familiar with the Dune series has recommendations please let me know.
